July gives our Explorers opportunity for an exclusive, intimate gathering, up to 4 participants, for an infusion of our favorite things:

  • Embodied Yoga

  • Somatic Experiencing

  • Breathwork Journey through the Chakras

As always, with D’Arcy’s background in event planning, she’s excited to make this experience extra special for participants through all the little details, beginning with intentionally setting the time of this session to complete as the sun is setting; such a potent time of day!

We’ll gather in The Heart Space Center’s private home space; a cozy room enclosed with sliding glass doors looking into the outdoors .✨

Upon registering* participants will be asked to complete a short questionnaire in advance, as we’ll use that information to help us curate the session specifically to those who sign up.

*for participants who register at least 2 weeks in advance.

One of the things I love about reading, particularly with fiction, is the way that, since finding Somatic Experiencing (SE), I seem to find it in almost every piece of fiction I read.

Authors are trying to get the reader to connect with their characters and understand how they’re feeling. Often they do this by describing the subtleties of the felt sense; those feelings and sensations we might notice when in extreme situations - or - in a simple SE session! So fun to notice it splashed across every piece of fiction I dive into!

Now, onto Daisy Jones & The Six. First off, you can’t go wrong with a Taylor Jenkins Reid novel - she’s a fantastic writer and has a knack for bringing the reader right into the era she’s writing about. You feel like you’re there and can get completely lost in her world. Magic every time✨

I read Daisy Jones & The Six roughly 2 years ago and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since; it’s that good!

Set in the 70’s, the reader is taken through the trials and tribulations of a small-town Ohio band trying to “make it”, while at the same time, following Daisy Jones growing up, practically on her own, with absent parents, in downtown LA. Daisy has a love of singing and music and, in a way, is raised by the LA nightlife and music scene. As she grows, her love of music, men and partying - all grow with her.

And of course (*spoiler!*) Daisy and the small-town Ohio band eventually converge (hence, Daisy Jones - & The Six) into a global success.

A couple things I so thoroughly enjoyed from this book:

1) among the drama, the drugs, and the glory, our two main characters; Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, who are so beautifully broken, just want to be loved. And don’t we all? One aspect of Reid’s writing that I appreciate is that she has the ability to connect the reader to feel into that basic need - love. You can’t not relate to this main duo. As much as they screw up. As much as you want to hate them at times, you can’t. Because it’s true - we all just want to be loved. And this is so clear in both Daisy and Billy.

Also, 2) Daisy Jones is a badass

Despite her stubborn demeanor and knack for pills, her love of singing and desire to share her authentic self with the world is what gets her through. Although Daisy receives various record label offers under the caveat that she just change “this” or “that”, she never does! She’d rather say no to a huge record deal than compromise herself. Good on doing you, Ms. Jones!

We could all learn from this book. From seeing beyond the struggles of humans we interact with, to understanding there may be so much more under their struggle and grief. Not pitying, but seeing. Maybe they’re just looking for love.

And to be true to ourselves. You…yes, YOU, are also a BADASS! Don’t settle for record labels that want to change you (so to speak). Be true to yourself and spread the magic and love that’s in there….the world deserves a chance to celebrate it🥳

Okay - side note - huge plus: this book was made into an Amazon Prime series (yes, I know…ugh, Amazon!). That said, it’s AMAZING! Check it out AFTER you read the book. 😉

Another side note huge plus: the cast started filming before COVID hit, and once the pandemic hit there were lapses in times they could film. During these lapses, the cast each learned the instrument they were playing in their band roles, and they actually got REALLY GOOD! There’s an entire album they’ve created and it’s worth checking out! My personal favs are Look at Us Now (Honeycomb) and Let Me Down Easy 🙌🏻

Beautiful Anonymous (BA) is the podcast that got me into podcasts. It holds a special place in my heart for that!

The first episode I listened to was before it officially launched. I was cleaning our tiny apartment in Taiwan, listening to an NPR podcast (don’t even remember what that was!) and on that podcast they aired a pilot of the first BA episode.

And I loved it!

An anonymous caller calls into host, Chris Gethard (best known now for the podcast, but is, by trade, a standup comedian) and they just shoot the shit for 60 minutes.

It’s THAT simple.

And in the simplicity of an honest conversation with caller and host, the listener taps into random stuff other people are going through in their lives. Sometimes it’s heartbreaking. Other times it’s laugh-out-loud hilarious. On occasion it can be infuriating. And sometimes you get a mixed bag.

But almost always, it’s entertaining. And, a nice reminder that we’re all just doing our thing, looking for ways to have fun, live life to the fullest, and connect with others.

BA has evolved from its’ early days; they have BA events, live podcasts, and whatever else host Chris Gethard is putting out there (he’s also a huge advocate for mental health, which I love!) is worth checking out.

Give BA a listen for a glimpse into the magic of the mundane✨

Global

  • Integral Heart Foundation

    • I had the pleasure of joining friends at a popup Kirtan hosted at Karuna Kava Bar in Garden City (GREAT spot btw, for you local Boise folks!).  Such a fun evening - check it out 👇🏽

Artists Luke Maguire Armstrong and Caleb Auston have lived in Guatemala for close to two decades, and bring kirtan, cacao, and yoga on the road to help raise money for the Integral Heart Foundation (IHF). IHF does an array of work with families and children in Guatemala with the goal of ending generational poverty. They do this in various ways and are always seeking sponsors and donors to help them continue the important work they’re doing.  IHF is a great cause and the kirtan offering was SO lovely…I was floating in the bhav and loving every moment gathered in community chanting, sipping cacao, and being together! Thanks for visiting Boise on your tour, Luke and Caleb! Check them out at the links within this write up. They’re currently traveling around the U.S. raising money for IHF while offering yoga, kirtan, and cacao - if they’re coming to your town, I highly recommend attending their offerings if you can! Magic, my friends - MAGIC!🥰🙏🏼📿

  • Recovery 2.0 Life Beyond Addiction

    • I met Tommy Rosen, Founder of Recovery 2.0, last September at Bhakti Fest (check out more on Bhakti Fest, in the local events, below!). I hadn’t heard of him before but was intrigued by the workshop he was leading, “Overcoming Our Addiction Culture”. What I experienced in that brief workshop; from kriyas to stories to gentle movement, had me so fired up. In a culture rampant with addiction; whether that’s addiction to substances, screens, foods, or something else, everyone is overcoming something. And Recovery 2.0 works to support people in programs that are based around the practice and principles of yoga, meditation, breathwork and holistic healing. You can drop into any of their recovery meetings, at no cost. He also has a podcast I enjoy on occasion….but we may save that for a future newsletter 😉

LOCAL

  • Yoga (and more!) on the Mountain -  Boise, ID🧘🏽‍♀️🌄🎸

    • Our family loves that our local ski resort is a) a nonprofit and b) offers year-round fun! Beat the heat and head up to Bogus Basin to enjoy yoga on the mountain, hiking, mountain biking, live music, their Glade Runner mountain coaster (my new personal favorite after riding it with my 4-year-old niece when she came to visit), and more!

  • Bhakti Fest - Joshua Tree, CA

    • September 27-29. I had the absolute pleasure and delight attending this festival last year! Note: it is a festival (not a retreat!). My system was slightly shocked when I arrived as I’m used to attending retreats vs festivals, but once I relaxed into the festival-vibe; it was a great time! Plenty of yoga, breathwork, kirtan, and more - highly recommend if you’re into, or have interest in, Bhakti Yoga🐒📿❤️
